Katy Perry & John Mayer's Relationship Goes from Hot to Cold...Fast

We feel like there were only a few photos of the pair snapped together over the past couple of months, and then bam! John Mayer and Katy Perry are over.

Perry recently divorced Russell Brand and had only been dabbling in short-term musical flings. In April, she was linked to Florence + the Machine rocker Robert Ackroyd, and then moved on to Mr. Mayer.

According to Us Weekly, Mayer, 34, and Perry, 27, made a cute pair on a first outing to Soho House in early June. Then in August, the new couple steamed things up at a pool party, where one observer commented: "They were all over each other, making out."

Well, that's hot, but now their relationship has gone ice cold.

An insider tells Us Weekly, that Perry "is really upset about it." She isn't ready for a full-blown relationship, but she did mention to a pal that "she feels a real connection (with John) and wants to see where things go."

Well, they seem to have gone off a cliff, much like Mayer's past relationships with the likes of Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jessica Simpson, Taylor Swift and Jennifer Aniston. As we all know, the summer is meant for flings that keep the mind warm in winter. "Flings" being the key word.

One source tells People of the breakup: "They'll end up as friends. They were honestly having fun. People made it out to be far more than it was." Who knows? Maybe this little romantic foray will be good for both singers' next albums!
