Lauren Conrad's Top Tips for Finding Your Wedding Dress
One thing we're most excited to see at Lauren Conrad's upcoming wedding is what she'll choose as her wedding gown. The former Hills star has made a name for herself as a fashion icon since the show went off the air, and she's a designer in her own right as well. She recently shared her top tips for finding your dream dress on her blog, and we couldn't agree more with her guidelines. Here, Conrad's three mantras:
1. Don't knock it 'til you try it
We hear this tip over and over from designers: A dress can look completely different on the rack than it does on your body. And even if you have your heart set on certain silhouette, keep an open mind and try on other styles as well - you never know what'll look best until you try it on. "I always imagined myself in an elegant ball gown with lots and lots of tulle. But just for fun, I decided to try on some sleeker, more sophisticated gowns when I was dress shopping," Conrad wrote. "I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the sleeker dresses and realized that I should stay open-minded during my dress search."
2. Find the kindest cut for your figure
While you shouldn't rule out any styles (see rule #1), knowing which silhouette works best for your body type will give you a good starting point. "A dress that looks great on a curvier girl might not work if your figure is slim and straight," she wrote.
3. Bring a trusted advisor
This is so important: Definitely bring a few people with you, but don't feel like you need to include everyone in the process - bringing an entourage will only confuse you. "The fact is, maybe your best friend has very different taste than you do when it comes to fashion," wrote Conrad. "Or maybe your mother is very traditional and won't understand a more modern dress choice." When choosing who to bring, think about who has a similar aesthetic to you and, most importantly, who will be completely honest and tell you when a dress just doesn't look right. Cristina DeMarco of Bridal Reflections once told us, "I have always been a believer that the most a bride should bring when dress shopping is two people."
