Meet the Today Show’s New Pregnant Power Couple: Jenna Wolfe and Stephanie Gosk

Today show anchor Jenna Wolfe announced on air Wednesday that she was five months pregnant—and simultaneously came out to the world when she added, “My girlfriend Stephanie Gosk and I, who works here at NBC, we’re expecting a baby girl in the end of August.”

The way the news was delivered—with a backdrop of day two at the Supreme Court gay marriage hearings, and in an interesting blend of scripted, awkward, but ultimately no-big-deal happy banter between Wolfe, Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie and Al Roker—was a far cry from the on-air coming out of another lesbian host, Ellen DeGeneres, 16 years ago. It coincided with a profile of the expecting Wolfe and Goske in the latest issue of People, which hit stands Wednesday. (And it was nice break from the ongoing Lauer-Ann Curry drama, which continues to make headlines.)

“Stephanie’s extremely adventurous, she’s been all over the world. You know me, there’s not a building I haven’t jumped off of,” Wolfe said during her announcement. “For us this is nothing like any of that. This is the adventure of a lifetime.”

So who are the women who make up the newest Sapphic, journalistic power couple? Let’s take a look-see…

•The women, who met through work, have been a couple for three years.

•Wolfe was born in Jamaica and raised there until she was 5, when she and her family moved to Haiti, then came to the U.S. in 1989. She’s fluent in French and Creole.

•Wolfe started at NBC as a summer intern while she was a student at SUNY-Binghamton; before that her gigs included reporter and anchor for the MSG Network, morning sports anchor for WABC’s Eyewitness News in New York and first female sportscaster for Philadelphia’s WICZ-TV.

•Gosk earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Georgetown University. After college, Gosk traveled to the Dominican Republic as a Peace Corps volunteer.

•Gosk began her career as a desk assistant and off-air producer for ABC News in New York City.

•Wolfe is an extreme-sports fan who plays racquetball, volleyball, and enjoys skydiving and waterskiing.

•Gosk has covered some major on-location stories in recent years, including the death of Osama Bin Laden, the Arab Spring, conflict in Gaza, Hurricane Sandy, and the 2012 London Summer Olympics. She’s also spent time with troops in Iraq to report pieces for Good Morning America and World News Tonight.

•Wolfe attended the 15th Annual National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association New York Benefit in 2010.

•The pair used an anonymous sperm donor for artificial insemination. "We want the child to be raised with two parents and never the question of 'Is there a third?'" Wolfe told People.

•Wolfe’s been dealing with major morning sickness, and called her first trimester “brutal” in a new pregnancy blog. “There were days when all I could eat were Saltine crackers, Apple Jacks dry cereal and plain pasta,” she wrote. “Let's just say I have a newfound respect for any woman anywhere who tells me they've experienced morning sickness.”

•Wolfe and Gosk intend to marry, but haven't yet set a date.
