Please Don't Let "Sex Selfies" Become the Next Trend in Oversharing, OK?

Remember good old 2013, when selfie was the word of the year? It was an age of innocence, when, sure, maybe we were all a little too obsessed with ourselves, but it was just a bit of PG-rated fun to snap a silly photo of your own mug.

That was before I learned about this variation of the trend that evidently exists: sex selfies. As is fairly clear from its name, it's the act of taking a photo (or video) of yourself while having sex.

I came across the term thanks to an article on habits of cheaters courtesy of AshleyMadison.com, and according to that, it's "a surprisingly widespread practice worldwide." However, I think we can all agree that the habits of people who would use a website to find partners in adultery are not necessarily indicative of the habits of all people, so I'll skeptically raise my eyebrows as to just how widespread the practice actually is.

But still, it's at least enough of a thing to get its own name. And what's more, apparently there aren't just sex selfies--there are solo sex selfies (preferred to regular sex selfies by the people of France, it's claimed in that article).

Now of course, couples have been filming themselves having sex since the dawn of home video equipment. Heck, leaked sex tapes have given us a fairly significant amount of famous people. They're not exactly new. But when we throw the practice into the realm of "selfies," what does this mean for social media? Will the week progress from Throwback Thursday to Sex-Selfie Saturday? Will people start being unwilling to have sex without documenting it the way many seem to be physically incapable of having a meal if it hasn't been Instagrammed?

I'm concerned, you guys. If there were ever a time you should be living in the moment and not pausing to document the experience with your best duck face, I feel like it's sex, right?

OK, spill: Have you ever taken a photo during sex? Would you ever?
