Is Your Relationship Too Good to Be True?

Is Your Relationship Too Good to Be True?

At times I have asked myself "How did I get here? Why am I the lucky one that after so many years of heartbreak, I found myself in the most amazing relationship?" The reason I ask myself this question is because before I found my current relationship, there was a time I did not think I would ever get there. But I got lucky and I ended up with the most beautiful soul I have ever met. I made a few changes to how I approached my love life. I think these simple changes that worked for me would be beneficial to anyone seeking their other half.

For many years I dated the wrong person and went through many month-long relationships. I literally had to sit down with my self and figure out what was wrong with what I was doing. At the end of the day I had to realize just going through life and hoping someone would stick around was not enough for me.

The first thing I had to ask myself was "Am I really ready?" I asked this because I knew that had to take ownership in being part of the problem. I realized I was not ready. How I made myself ready was reaching out to others in good and bad relationships and seeing what worked and what didn't work. I was outside looking in. This allowed me to learn what it took to be in a successful relationship. Honesty, compromise, and communication were tools I learned, while at the same time letting go of my selfishness. If it were all about me then I would be the only person there.

I learned never let yourself settle. If the person has issues they might just bring those along. If they have baggage, you're probably going to need a trunk. Get to know them. Find out who they are and what they stand for. Judge them by their actions not just what they tell you. If you are looking for a partner then you should find someone you mesh well with while at the same time not taking less than you deserve.

Be patient. Unfortunately it may or may not happen quickly, but if it does then it is a good idea to be ready for it. If you start to lose your patience and lose your hope then you may lose sight of something special for your life. Things take time in life. The more time passes by the more mature you get as an individual and maturity leads to having patience.

There are 6 billion people in this world. With those numbers, one should have the ability to find what they are looking for. Someone is out there for you. Give yourself some thought and see if you are ready. If so, don't settle and just be patient. Your dreams of the most amazing relationship can come true. Mine did.
