Settle an Argument: "Can He Hit the Snooze Button While I Sleep?"

By Perri O. Blumberg, REDBOOK

Gaby, 29, and her boyfriend Scott, 31, have been dating for three and a half years. Scott likes to get up early so he sets their alarm for an hour before Gaby has to be awake, but most mornings he winds up hitting the snooze button at least five times before getting out of their bed. The blaring chimes from the alarm keep him from oversleeping, but Gaby thinks it's just an unfair nuisance that starts off her day on the wrong foot.

Should Gaby boot Scott out of the bed with the first alarm?

She says: "I really value that precious last hour of sleep, and Scott's tendency to use the snooze alarm over and over is just plain inconsiderate. I know he doesn't want to get out of bed (who does?), but I shouldn't have to suffer through it."

He says: "Hitting snooze let's me wake up slowly, which is what I've been doing for years and it helps me function best in the morning. I know it's annoying to her, but I can't risk oversleeping!"
