Why Simon Cowell's Reported Love Triangle Isn't All That Surprising

Simon Cowell, the 53-year-old "X Factor" judge who once said, “God no!” to the notion of having children, is reportedly going to be a father.

The mother of his unborn child is rumored to be New York socialite Lauren Silverman, 36, who is 10 weeks pregnant and inconveniently married to one of Cowell’s best friends, real estate mogul Andrew Silverman.  "Lauren and Andrew have been unhappy in their marriage for some time, and their divorce has been in the works for a while," a source told Us Weekly. "As their marriage deteriorated, she and Simon became close."

Cowell’s reps haven’t confirmed the pregnancy, but if the story is true, it wouldn’t be the first time his love life has raised eyebrows.

In December 2012, Cowell dated '90s MTV star Carmen Electra, but how serious they actually got depends on who you ask. Cowell insisted that he and Electra were not, in fact, in a relationship but instead were “people who date.” Meanwhile Electra, 41, told reporters that they were friends who had “hung out a few times.” So it wasn't all that surprising when, in February, Cowell confirmed their breakup.

Before that, the British music mogul was engaged to makeup artist Mezhgan Hussainy, whom he met on the set of "American Idol," while he was reportedly still living with ex-girlfriend and British television host Terry Seymour. He and Hussainy became engaged in 2010, but two years later, they ended their relationship, with some sources citing constant bickering about Hussainy's "neediness" as the cause. It was also widely reported that his parting gift to Hussainy was an $8 million mansion, though Cowell has denied that.

But it wouldn't be such a strange gift for Cowell to give. After his six-year relationship with Seymour fizzled in 2008, allegedly due to his reluctance to marry and have kids, Cowell reportedly gave her $9 million in cash (he and Seymour, denied those claims too) and allowed her to move into his secondary home, a $4.9 million Hollywood Hills mansion, while she waited for her own home to be built. Three years later, Seymour finally moved out.

Toss in a fling with "The X Factor" (U.K.) judge Dannii Minogue, who reportedly dated Cowell after his breakup with Seymour (she described him as “batty as anything”); his crush on former show judge Cheryl Cole; a brief romance with Hussainy in 2012; and a "mystery woman” he was photographed with at London restaurant River Café in June; and you've got one very busy guy.

Now that a baby is (maybe) on board, Cowell, who once confessed that he's "attracted to crazy women" and that "I'd want kids if I knew I could be faithful," is in for the commitment of a lifetime.
