This Is Why It's Dangerous To Set Someone Up

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder John Mayberry Jr. got himself a little crush on actress Antoinette Nikprelaj, an actress from the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie. So he asked his agent to find her and ask her out for him.

Now, Mayberry probably assumed his agent would play it cool and subtly contact her to see if she would be interested in a date. You know, maybe talk him up a bit, like a good wingman would.

Unfortunately, that is not what happened.

Read the horrible, embarrassing email that the agent sent Nikprelaj's team:

"I hate to even be sending you this email, and I'm quite embarrassed to say the least, but we have a young client on the Philadelphia Phillies who asked us if we knew any agents at Innovative Artists and could connect him to Antoinette Nikprelaj. I know you're not a dating or set-up service, but John Mayberry Jr. (Phillies OF) would love to meet Antoinette or invite her to a baseball game sometime. Would this be possible?"

Painful. And of course, the email got leaked on the internet, and now Mayberry is embarrassed forever. What he should have done was just ask his agent to find her contact info, and then ask her out himself.

If you HAVE to use a middleman:

1. Make sure it's someone you trust (a friend, and not someone you work with, for instance).

2. Tell them exactly what to say, or ask to see what they're going to send.

3. Take matters into your own hands as soon as possible! Use the middleman once -- and then take over all future correspondance yourself.
