The Type of Photo that Will Get You 60% More Attention Online (It Doesn't Include Cleavage, I Promise!)

If your New Year's resolution is to dust off your online dating profile and get some action on it, here's an important tip…

While it should be obvious to include a full-body photo amongst your other pictures--it can increase attention by an average of 203 percent for both sexes--for women in particular, you might want to use a particular type: an indoor photo. Using a full-body picture taken indoors can get you 60 percent more messages.

This further fuels my already firmly held belief that at least 60 percent of dudes who claim to be really into hiking on their profile are totally lying, and they'd much prefer a girl who wants to stay inside and watch Seinfeld reruns on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

A man who uses an outdoor photo, on the other hand, will actually be seen more favorably, getting nineteen percent more messages. The reverse is true for selfies: They increase attention to women by four percent, but decrease it for men by eight percent.

As per usual, while it's interesting to note the trends of these studies, I personally always think you should go with the pictures that best portray you as you really are! Everyone should include a full-body shot, because people need to see all of you, but if you're happiest outdoors, post that picture of you grinning at the top of the ski slope. If he doesn't like it, he probably couldn't keep up with you anyway.

Do you use a full-body picture in your online dating profile? Do you prefer indoor or outdoor photos?
