Wedding Announcement: Edward Cullen, Lauren Adkins

A student at the University of Nevada is set to marry a cardboard cutout of Edward Cullen, the hero of the Twilight saga, shattering the hopes and dreams of millions of teenage girls and middle-aged women across the globe.

The bride, Lauren Adkins, 24, already has her engagement ring and is currently shopping for a wedding dress, according to the Daily Mail. The nuptials are scheduled to take place on January 26, 2013 in the capital of quickie weddings, Las Vegas.

The groom, Edward Cullen, an immortal 17, is the hero of the Twilight saga, the vampire romance series by Stephenie Meyer that has become an international phenomenon both on the page and on screen with five movie adaptations starring Robert Pattinson as Edward and Kristen Stewart as his human paramour Bella Swan.

As she is clearly Team Edward, the bride is not keeping her name, having already changed her name to "Lauren Adkins Cullen," on her Facebook account. It's not clear what Adkins means to do about Edward's current wife, Bella. "I didn't ask him to marry me out loud," she told Metro UK. "I didn't have to. I knew by his silence he'd say yes. Of course he'd say 'yes.'"

Shortly before matriculating at the University of Nevada, the bride became obsessed with Twilight, reading all four books in just one week. Since purchasing her groom in a record store in November 2010, they've spent nearly every moment together.

"A few of my ex-boyfriends found out and they're surprised I'm taking things this far," Adkins said, "but they've always known I'm a massive romantic."

Adkins is eager to make it official, as the wedding ceremony is part of her thesis for her master's degree in fine art. She hopes to expand on her project "Love is Overtaking Me," an exploration of female fandom, gender roles, fantasy, and "the expectations Hollywood places on relationships," she explained to Las Vegas Weekly.

"The work is also an exploration of the dismissive and vitriolic (if not violent) attitude of the media and other fans toward female fandom. Keywords: obsessive, crazy, insane, psychotic, etc.," Adkins wrote on her website, adding that the press coverage she receives will also be included in her analysis.

50 of Adkins's closest friends will be in attendance for the wedding. No word on whether or not anyone from the Cullen family will be there.
