Romulo A YanesRomulo A Yanes A bride-to-be wanting to get fit for her wedding isn't all that unusual (how many "bridal boot camp" classes have you seen?). But one who won't get married until she loses weight--and takes seven years to do so? Well, that's a little different.

The Daily Mail reports the story of Kirsty Thomson, from Scotland, who got engaged in 2006. At the time, she weighed 17 stone (about 238 pounds, but I kind of wish we used stones in the U.S. too--it just sounds neater)--a weight, Kirsty says, that just wouldn't do: "I refused to set a date because I didn't want to be a fat bride. I tried every diet, but I would always start craving something, and that would be the end of it."

Meanwhile, her groom, Lindsay McEwan, would propose again and again--every year, on the same date--to which, he says, Kirsty would say "not this year." Meanwhile, Kirsty had infused her days with exercise (she says she didn't do much of that before), joined a weight-loss club, and given up takeout meals. Seven years later, she dropped more than 60 pounds, hit her goal dress size...and finally walked down the aisle.

Whoa...I mean, talk about sticking to a goal! What do you think?
