Millennial Women Don't Want to Be CEOs, Says Survey

Would you sacrifice your personal life to climb the corporate ladder and land the plush corner office? Probably not: A new survey from the Zeno Group found that millennial women definitely have career goals, but those goals don't include ascending to the CEO level.

According to the study, just 15 percent of 1,000 women between the ages 21 to 33 want to head up a large organization. The chief reason? Many of us -- especially millennial moms -- would rather have a happy family and social life than sacrifice to maybe make it to the top… someday.

Does that mean we're not ambitious? Hardly. It just shows that our definition of "success" is changing - and companies have to either embrace it, or face a workforce that lacks access to talented women.

"We don't want W-O-R-K becoming the new four-letter word for this generation," Zeno Group CEO Barby Siegel said.

But, how can we do that? By letting go of the "all or nothing" mentality that so many women have in the workplace. I'm no expert on how all women of the millennial generation can create a work-life balance, but I found a way to make my life and work mix together, for better or for worse, by following these mantras:

Stop Trying to Be Perfect

The "can women have it all?" debate never ends: Some say that women can have it all, while others say it's an unattainable goal. I've just learned that my life is so much easier since I decided to just let things go.

Do I like screwing up? No way. Does it happen? Daily. I just fix the problems as they come up and move forward. No dwelling allowed.

Make Health a Priority

I don't know about you, but work is excruciatingly difficult when I'm tired. And I was tired all of the time. I dreamed about sleep; it was that bad. I knew it had something to do with my caffeine habit, terrible diet and horrific sleep schedule, but I didn't change anything until I actually fell asleep in the middle of a big project.

After that, I cleaned up my diet, added a regular vitamin regimen and adopted a 4-times-a-week Pilates routine. I'm still working on the proper sleep schedule thing, but my outlook on everything has improved about 1,000 percent.

Make Yourself Scarce

I can't tell you the number of times I've replied to an email after midnight or finished a project while catching up on reality television. Sure, I was on top of everything, but I also felt like my life was turning into 24/7 work. Nothing I do at work is a potential life or death situation, so now, I work when I'm at work -- and I leave the rest for the next day.
