10 Things I Could Never Do Until I Became a Mother
Before I became a parent, I was just a regular person.
Now, although I look like a regular person on the outside, I have a few parenting super powers tucked away for when I need them.
And, if you're a parent, I'm guessing you have most of these super powers too:
#1: I can unfold a stroller with one hand.
And a baby in the other arm, with a purse on my shoulder.
#2: I can conjure a snack or toy from my purse.
Even if that "toy" is actually an empty mint container.
#3: I can go from sound asleep to completely alert with one baby cry.
I wouldn't say this is necessarily a superpower I WANT, but I'll take what I can get.
#4: I can change a bite of ordinary food into an airplane.
Or a train or a bird or a dragon.
#5: I can read a book with my eyes closed.
After a few reads of Goodnight Moon, I don't need to actually see the words to recite the entire thing.
#6: I can find a pacifier anywhere.
In the dark, in the crevices of a carseat, tangled in a blanket, or tossed under the couch.

#7: Those carseat buckles? No problem.
I don't even think about this superpower until I see someone who doesn't do it 10 times a day fiddling around with it endlessly. I can have that baby in and out in 5 seconds flat.
#8: I can chase all the monsters out from under the bed.
Monsters have nothing on mamas.
#9: I know what those different cries mean.
(This one meant "I desperately need a nap and vacation is killing me.")
#10: I understand babbling.
When other children speak, I have no idea what they are saying. But my own child? Of course I know they want a banana or to ride their bikes!
