4 Things that Make Up My "Mom Uniform" (and Why I Have No Shame)

No Shame in My
No Shame in My

A younger, possibly more stylish and non-parenting friend of mine recently made a comment to me basically calling me out for wearing what she referred to as a "mom uniform". In a nutshell, she thinks I virtually wear the same thing every single day, with slight modifications and rotations within my closet.

She went on to claim that every time she runs into me and the kids, I'm basically wearing exactly what she saw me in last time we met, just in a different color or style. The four same wardrobe pieces, OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

And the thing is, she's totally right, and I didn't even really notice the trend until she mentioned it. Aside from dressy occasions like church, date nights, and special events, I do wear mostly the same type of outfit almost every day.

And you want to know what? I like they way I dress and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

My "mom uniform":

- ponytail and light make-up.

- fitted t-shirt with zip-up hoodie on top

- skinny jeans on the bottom

- flats on my feet

Some might say that I've lost my sense of style, or I've "gone downhill" since I left the corporate design world to become a stay-at-home mom to four little kids. But honestly, I wear these clothes almost everyday because they work for my daily routine. Sure, I'll admit I'm a creature of habit when it comes to my 9 - 5 weekly fashion sense, and I probably could change it up a bit if I tried a little harder.

But honestly, right now in my current phase of life, I just don't have a ton of time to devote to getting ready in the morning, but that doesn't mean I've "let myself go". I still love fashion and going shopping, it's just not a top priority in my life right now. The simple, no-frills style works best for me.

I have lots of fun tanks and tee for my base layer, and too many hoodies to count (I blame breastfeeding and the easy of the hoodie zipper for my current sweatshirt obsession). And the skinny jeans? I've found a very affordable brand I love and have shamelessly bought every color they have in my size. And on my feet, flats rule. Moccasins, flipflops, ballet slipper, you name it and I have a pair.

Someday down the road when I'm not caring for babies all day I would love to devote more time, energy and money into my appearance. But for today and for tomorrow, this laid back jeans-and-hoodie style is the perfect style for me.

How about you? Do you find yourself wearing a "mom uniform"?
