5 Things Babies Can Teach Us About Thankfulness

5 Things Babies Can Teach Us About Thankfulness5 Things Babies Can Teach Us About ThankfulnessThe moment I became a mother there were suddenly one thousand reasons to be thankful: ten tiny fingers and ten tiny toes. The sound of his breath as he slept. The way my heart overflowed when he'd finally arrived, a perfect blend of his daddy and me.

Even though that was a long time ago, I'm still counting my blessings every day.

November is the month we set aside to focus on gratitude. If you're like me, your Facebook feed is sprinkled with daily reasons for thanks, many of which are related to parenthood.

But have you considered that babies themselves have a lot to teach us about gratitude?

1. Little Blessings
As moms, we tend to focus on why we're thankful for our children. Sometimes they're the ones who teach us the most important lessons of all. Click through to see what moms have to say about what they've learned from their babies.

2. Miracles Happen
My girl taught me to be grateful for anything and everything that I have. After a few miscarriages, a couple of adoptions that went awry for various reasons, I finally was able to not only fall pregnant but carry to term my sweet, yummy girl. Not a day goes by that I don't thank my lucky stars that she is in my life.

3. Focusing on What Matters
Even in the "tough" parenting moments, I am constantly reminded of how thankful that I am that she is simply here. But I also see her as my utmost spiritual teacher. Her ability to focus on the present moment and what really matters keeps me on track and helps me remember what is really important in life.

4. A Legacy
Gratitude, simply, for what's in a name. My son, Jacob David Brusie, on the centennial family farm that his great-grandfather, David Brusie built up. Grandpa Brusie passed away before he could meet the first great-grandson to carry on the family name.

5. The Gift of Acceptance

I've always loved that stage from about 4 months to about 8 months when babies will gladly go to anyone who wants to hold them. There's nothing better than seeing your baby sharing cuddles with someone who really needs them- and during this stage babies always seem to be grateful to share the love! I've learned from them that sharing myself with others can be the greatest gift, even if it's just a smile or a hug.
