Was Beyonce trying to tell her fans a little something when she penned her hit song Run the World (Girls)? According a report by the New York Daily News, the reigning king and queen of hip hop, Beyonce and Jay-Z, welcomed a little princess named Blue Ivy Carter into the world late Saturday night, January 7, 2012. A source told the Houston Chronicle that "both mother and baby are doing fine."

The couple gave birth by c-section at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. According to a hospital source, they commandeered the entire fourth floor for a cost of over $1 million. Security was tight. Beyonce checked in under the name of "Ingrid Jackson" on Friday night. Private guards patrolled outside the hospital. As of Saturday night, employees were barred from using cell phones and security cameras inside the hospital were taped over.

Initially, there was some confusion in the media about whether the baby was named Blue Ivy or Ivy Blue. After greeting the baby via Twitter, "Welcome to the world Blue! We love you already," Gwyneth Paltrow also tweeted to confused fans, "It's Blue Ivy Carter!" Hip Hop mogul Russell Simmons's website Global Grind explained the meaning behind the unusual name: Jay-Z's given name is Shawn Carter. "Blue" refers to Jay-Z's album "The Blueprint." "Ivy" represents the Roman numerals IV, or four. Both Beyonce and Jay-Z have strong associations with the number four. Beyonce's birthday is September 4 and Jay-Z was born on December 4. The were married on April 4, 2008 and Beyonce's latest album is called "4." Got that? There will be a quiz later.

"Congrats to my good friends Beyonce and Jay-Z," Simmons posted on Twitter. Rhianna tweeted, "Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih." P. Diddy chimed in, ""Congrats to jay and B! God Bless :) ! And many more!"

Surprisingly, Jay-Z may not have busted out the Cristal in celebration. Instead, the New York Daily News says delivery men brought "takeout and a dozen bottles of red wine onto the heavily guarded wing."
