Cameron Diaz: “It’s Not like I’m the Spinster Who Didn’t Have a Child”

Cameron Diaz is known for being a "girl's girl" in Hollywood, so it's no wonder that the actress loves opening up about being a woman, aging, and motherhood. The California beauty talked to the Telegraph this month about why she doesn't feel like an "old spinster who didn't have a child" (that's Bridget Jones talk for those of you in the know), and how she doesn't feel childless in her life thanks to all of her female friends and their kids.

When asked about the possibility of motherhood, Cameron says that she never planned on not having children, and she's still open to the idea of becoming a mother in the future (she's only 41, after all). She says:

"I'm certain that if at any point I wanted a child, that child would find its way into my life, whether through adoption, or through being in a relationship with somebody who has a child. I can't see the future, but one thing I do know is that I'm not childless. I have a ton of children in my life. I can have a kid any second, if I want. All my friends would be like, 'Sure, come and get them.'

Cameron goes on to say that no woman should feel any shame for her decision to not have children and that in this day and age, it's all about the choices we make in life and where they lead us.

"It's not like I'm the spinster who didn't have a child. I just didn't do that in life, and I'm OK with that. I know the choices I made. I know why I made them. I'm very much a person who lives in the moment. When you come from where I do, there are so many ways my life could have gone."

And you know what, I agree with Cameron Diaz wholeheartedly. Yes, I am in my mid-30s, married and with two kids, but what if I didn't start dating my husband years ago like I did? What if we didn't move in together and plan things the way we did? What if he decided that kids weren't for him? What if we ended up breaking up after an odd fight, and my future fate had changed completely? What if it took me years to find "the one" to settle down with? Every woman has a different road map and compass that leads them in directions that no one can really predict. While there's nothing wrong with women who plan their whole lives around procreation, there's nothing wrong with leading your life with both your heart and your mind at the same time. What is wrong, though, is when society feels the need to pressure women to get pregnant regardless of whether they are ready or not.
