Charlize Theron Opens Up About New Motherhood to Ryan Seacrest
New mom Charlize Theron chatted with Ryan Seacrest on Friday about her favorite baby gadgets and more!

Charlize Theron's announcement last week that she had adopted a baby boy may have taken the world by surprise, but boy, was it a pleasant one. Besides releasing one short statement, however, she kept pretty quiet all week. We understand why, of course; but that still didn't stop our insatiable curiosity from working overtime. But now we've got a little more to go on! Hoorah!
Charlize went on Ryan Seacrest's radio show last Friday to chat about new motherhood and how baby Jackson (who, by the way, is four months old) has changed her life. The most surprising thing, the actress said, was the outpouring of support from the public. "It's been amazing, the amount of emails and congratulations," she said; "Everyone's just been so lovely-it's been really nice." That support? Probably because we all think she's going to be a terrific mom!
So what's Charlize's favorite baby gadget? Well, it may not quite be a "gadget," per se, but she kind of adores swaddling: "I've got to say, I didn't think I would be a fan of the swaddling," she told Ryan, "but the swaddling's pretty amazing." For those of you who aren't familiar with the technique, swaddling involves wrapping your baby up ridiculously tightly so that they don't scratch their faces or anything. Sound weird? Charlize thought so, too-"At first, it looks a little like a straitjacket, and you just feel like it's child abuse," she remarked-but don't worry; it's not. "For some reason," Charlize said "they just love it."
Ryan also took the opportunity to ask her a few questions about Snow White and the Huntsman. Here are a couple of soundbytes for you:
On taking on the Evil Queen: "For me, I just saw great potential to take something so iconic and find a human being underneath all that."
On evil character inspiration: "Oh my god-that's it! She's Jack Nicholson in The Shining! Locked in her hotel-castle, going slowly crazy!"
On the reimagining of the tale: "This is not your dad's Snow White."
