How Old Is Too Old for a Stroller?

There are a lot of things I don't like about my Maclaren Techno XT umbrella stroller. I wish it was lighter and less awkward so carrying it up and down steps wasn't such a hassle. I also wish it was easier to fold and had a carrying strap so I could hoist it around with less effort. All that being said, though, I love my stroller. I don't go anywhere without my stroller. In snow, sleet, rain or shine, you'll fine me trudging around pushing my good ol' Maclaren.

Except for the past few days, I've been hesitating every time I get ready to go out with my daughter. Should we take the stroller or leave it? Last weekend as I was securing my daughter in her stroller a friend of the family casually said, "You better get out and walk. You're too big to ride in a stroller." Of course, my little girl leaned back in her ride and didn't pay him any attention. I, on the other hand, couldn't help but wonder if he was right. And then I started wondering if everyone on the street was thinking the same thing. Were they all asking themselves, "Why is she pushing that big kid in a stroller?"

The weight capacity for the Maclaren Techno XT is 55 pounds, which is about double what my daughter weighs. So technically, no she isn't too big for her stroller. But I'm wondering, is there a certain age, or size or milestone that makes it taboo to push your kid around in a stroller anymore? When did you stop using a stroller?
