A Kardashian Barbie: Good Idea for Kids?

Why Did the Paycheck Fairness Act Get Voted Down?

Rumors are flying that Mattel is going to put out a series of Kardashian Barbies based on sisters Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe of reality show "Keeping up with the Kardashians" fame.

According to the latest issue of US Weekly, an unnamed source said, "The dolls will reflect the girls' measurements and may even come in Kardashian-designed outfits." Mattel, notoriously secretive before the release of a new product, declined to comment.

However, on Christmas Day, Kim Kardashian tweeted her close, personal plastic gal pal, "Merry Christmas Barbs @BarbieStyle! Long time no see! What did Ken get you for Chrsitmas? Miss you doll!"

The response? "I'm sure we will be seeing lots of each other! Shopping soon! Xo RT@BarbieStyle: Happy Doll-idays to you to @KimKardashian! See you in 2012?"

Unless you just returned from the International Space station, you already know that Kim Kardashian might not be the best roll model for doll-loving tots. She's been at the center of numerous scandals including explicit photos that were allegedly taken when she was underage, a sex tape with singer Ray J that was leaked over the Internet, and most recently, her 72-day marriage to basketball player Kris Humphries that some sources report earned her as much as $17 million.

Barbie isn't exactly immune to scandal herself. According the M.G. Lord's "Forever Barbie: The Unauthorized Biography of A Real Doll," the inspiration for America's favorite doll came from a German novelty toy marketed to men named "Lilli." Based on a sexy, gold digging comic strip character, Mattel ripped off Lilli and started hawking her double to little girls in the United States in 1959.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Kardashian Krew will actually end up immortalized by Mattel. For one thing, Barbie's dimensions, which have barely changed over the decades, correspond to a real woman who stands 5 feet 9 inches tall, boasts a 39 inch bust, and 18 inch waist, and a 3 inch waist and weighs 110 pounds--not exactly a bodacious Kardashian form. But if they do, the dolls will be in good company; over the years, Mattel has also released Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Barbie, Harley Davidson Barbie, Alexis Carrington Barbie, and Totally Tattoos Barbie complete with a tiny tramp stamp.

The New York Post also reports the Kardashians may be launching a magazine devoted to the family's hijinks.
