'Modern Family' Under Fire for Cursing 2-Year-Old

In its 3rd season on ABC, Modern Family takes a look at all the trials and tribulations parents go through while raising kids. No stranger to controversy, the show continuously pushes the limits and tries to think outside of the box. And tonight's episode is no different.

Same-sex couple Mitchell and Cameron (played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet) are with their adopted daughter, 2-year-old Lily, when she lets loose her first curse word. And one anti-profanity group is up in arms about it.

McKay Hatch is the founder of the No-Cussing Club, and he is calling on ABC to pull the episode from the air. Barring that, he's hoping to get word to ABC that this is inappropriate and "people all over the world don't want to have a 2-year-old saying the 'F-Bomb' on TV," according to CBS News.

Steven Levitan, co-creator of the comedy, maintains it's a valid story line to show on the air, because it's something a lot of families have to contend with. And he's absolutely right. Whether your child learns bad words at home, school, or even in books or on TV, they're bound to be exposed to them. And like most children, they repeat what they hear, particularly if it's "bad."

In defense of the show, the actress playing Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) says "fudge" and her mouth is pixilated, only giving you the impressions she says the much more inappropriate word. And while many think it's a bad decision on the network's part, I'm more interested to see how the parents on the show handle it. My guess is they will teach their young daughter the right lesson in the end, and get a few laughs in the process.
