Mom Confession: I Have a Favorite Child

Every mom knows that she's not supposed to play favorites, but this mom think it's only natural....Can you relate?

Of course, I love both of my kids equally, but let's be real. They've got their personalities and I've got mine. It's only natural that I'd click more with one of them. Is that so wrong?

When my daughters ask, "Which one of us do you love more?" I tell them "I have enough love for both of you." Which is the truth. It's just a good thing they don't ask me which one I like more... 'cause that's a whole different story.

Honestly, I like my 5-year-old, Rachel, better than my 7-year-old, Molly. And really it comes down to the same reasons we like anyone better... Rachel's nicer to me!

When I arrive home from work, Rachel will ask, "How was your day, mama?" while Molly just wants to know if she can watch TV. While Rachel can't get enough mommy hugs, Molly walks 10 feet ahead of me on the way to school. When Rachel's busy cracking up at my jokes, Molly's busy talking back to me. And it's not just about their ages. Molly has never been as cuddly and warm as Rachel.

Don't get me wrong. I love Molly to death. She's funny and smart and adventurous! But when I need a hug, she ain't the one.

Of course, I feel guilty. Admitting that you have a favorite kid is like one of the biggest parenting taboos, right? And I do worry that my girls can sense my preference (and that I'm setting them up for years of counseling!).

But until the therapy bills start rolling in, all I can do is try my best not to play favorites and assure them that I'll always love them both equally-even if I like one of them more!

Be honest. Do you have a favorite child?
