San Diego Kids Weekend Events: June 22-24

Is school back in session yet? Not to worry parents! San Diego has lots to do this weekend with food, art and nature appearing as the event themes. Start off the first official summer weekend with an outdoor movie at Santee Lakes. Spend the day at the Ocean Beach Street Fair and Chili Cook-off Festival (kids will love the Children's Wonderland area). Sample the cuisine in Kensington, North Park and Normal Heights at the annual Taste of Adams Avenue. Celebrate FUNbelievable Play's first birthday with cake and playtime. Take the kids to learn about friendly insects at the Birds and Bees Festival. And do some summer shopping at a Family Swap Meet in Carmel Valley. Whether you want to spend the weekend indoors, outside, eating or enjoying nature, there's something for every family in San Diego this weekend.

Ocean Beach Street Fair and Chili Cook-off Festival
Take the family and head to the 33rd Annual Ocean Beach Street Fair and Chili Cook-Off Festival. There will be lots of fun and entertainment, include the Children's Wonderland. Kiddos will enjoy pony rides, bounce houses, carnival games, a skate ramp, water slide and lots more. Parents will love the six stages of live music and the famous chili cook-off. Taste of Adams Avenue
Bring the family to the neighborhoods of Kensington, North Park and Normal Heights for the annual Taste of Adams Avenue event. Taste delicious treats and get the scoop on new restaurants. La Jolla Festival of the Arts

Movies By the Lake
Start your weekend with a summertime treat - an outdoor movie. Kids will play games, participate in contests and watch "Happy Feet Two" on a huge outdoor movie screen. Fri., 6:00 pm, Santee Lakes, Free ($8 for parking). All ages. More info.

FUNbelievable Play Celebration
Celebrate FUNbelievable Play's first birthday with fun for the entire family. The day includes special performance from Clint Perry & The Boo Hoo Crew and birthday cake. Kids also leave with a party favor to enjoy. Each child also receives a free gift.

Fairy Festival
Kids can become fairies for the day when they create a fairy house, visit the Fairy Queen, leave a message on the Wishing Bush, and sign and dance with Snap Tap N' Sing. Family Swap Meet
Take care of some summer shopping with great deals for infants, children and expectant parents. There will be new and used baby clothing, handcrafted gifts, toys, strollers, high chairs, and more furniture. Birds and Bees Festival.
Join the Aqua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation for a day of fun games, crafts, live birds, and a live demonstration beehive. The festival celebrates the birds, bees and pollinating creatures.
