Tampon Girl Giovanna Plowman: Honey, You Didn't Have to Go There

A video posted by West Seneca, N.Y. teen Giovanna Plowman in which she seems to, um, remove and then snack on her own tampon has sparked a wave of disgust, disbelief, and even outrage online. And the desperate-for-attention high school freshman seems intent on making it her claim to fame.

"I just want to say, I'm not pulling any tricks," she says softly in the (very NSFW) video, which seems to have been shot in her bathroom. "This is obviously going to be disgusting."

It is.

She posted the video online last week, and both Facebook and YouTube quickly took it down for violating their terms of service -- but not before it was mirrored elsewhere and thousands of people watched it.

It may be the grossest stunt she's pulled in public, but her Facebook page -- which currently has 198,000 followers -- shows that she's been going for shock value for a while. Her profile photo is of her with one hand on her hip and her boobs pushed up to her neck; the cover photo is of a woman's waxed bikini line wearing nothing but a little strip of tape that says "Caution Wet." Suggestive photos, self-conscious videos, and teasing, sexually explicit "will I or won't I" status updates abound. Even the infamous tampon video features lots of leaning over in a low-cut shirt and push-up bra.

Honey. Please. Just. Stop. Now.

"Have you ever watched jackass? Fear factor? Jersey shore? I know you all have," she tells her critics via Facebook. "Its okay for them to get famous from eating and doing such stupid stuff or being sluts and partying hard. But i eat a tampon and get so much hate? It makes no sense."

Predictably, the tampon stunt has brought on the bullying, but Plowman doesn't seem to mind. It's all part of her grand plan. (No word on what her parents think about all this.)

"what i did was stupid...but SO WHAT?!" she tweeted on Tuesday. "i'm famous for that, ill be on ellen, ill get verified, i'm getting money to show up at some parties!!"

And anyone who says otherwise is a hater.

"Just because im a girl and ate something gross and got famous you hate on me?" she lashed out on Facebook. "Im a real nice girl. Dont start drama and i have only ever had one boyfriend? Please tell me how im a slut. Smh idgaf about you haters ill shine on with or with out you!"

Plowman bears a striking resemblance to Snooki and we'll admit that we've seen grosser stunts on MTV's "Jackass" -- and possibly more pitiful pleas for attention from former "Teen Mom" stars -- but Steve O and his crew of idiots are grown men doing stupid (and dangerous) things for a lot of money. Plowman a teenage girl who is degrading herself for free. There's a difference.

After watching the (very) NSFW video, we have to admit that we think it's a hoax. (One Shine editor points out that the tampon looks like it's been dunked in Kool Aid; listings for "Plowman" in Buffalo, N.Y., didn't turn up her parents). But there are plenty of people who think it's for real -- and plenty more who are giving Plowman the attention she wants (including us, we'll admit.) Several fake Facebook pages and Twitter accounts have cropped up, each quickly gaining thousands of followers. (Plowman is combating them by plugging her own accounts.) No word on what her parents think about all this. She's even caught the eye of gross-clip-show host/not-funny comedian Tosh from "Tosh 2.0."

Note to Plowman: No teenage girls should aspire to be on "Tosh 2.0"

"Why can't people just admit I'm famous," she gripes on Twitter.

That's because there's a huge difference between fame and notoriety. Just ask Lindsay Lohan.
