User post: Is it a good idea to have gay/lesbian youth outreach centers for kids?

As I am on my way into work this morning listening to the radio, they are having the conversation on whether or not it's a good idea to have Gay/Lesbian Youth Outreach Centers for kids. And of course, I can never get through on their phone line to share my comment, so I decided to blog about it.

I personally think that it is an excellent idea for someone to start some kind of outreach center where children can go and have someone that they can talk to, or someone that will comfort them when they are being bullied, whether it is at school, on the bus, or at home even. As I was listening to some of the comments that people were calling in on the radio, it started to really piss me off, because I know that everyone has different opinions on this subject.. whether or not you agree with it or disagree with it. But I don't understand why someone would not want a child to have somewhere to go when they need someone, as opposed to them hurting/killing themselves or running away, like you hear so much about today. I just don't get why you wouldn't want a child, or even YOUR child to be safe rather than have something else terrible happen. It's not a matter of their sexuality "being wrong" or "making them think that it is okay", but everyone needs to understand that this is the world today, and whether you like it or not, it's going on and I just feel like someone needs to support these children. Because sometimes they have nobody to talk to, not even their own family. I really feel like if we had something in our community that contributed to a subject like this, we wouldn't hear so much about child suicides, children beaten up in school, and all of these other things that happen.

I really didn't want to throw my opinion in here, but I kinda feel like if people would just take a step back and realize what is going on, there wouldn't be so much hate or crime going on. Because honestly, I feel like, you love who you love, regardless or sex, race, origin, or any of the above, and I would never discriminate someone for THEIR preference. And I know that everyone tries to throw the Bible into this situation, and like I said before, everyone has their own opinions. But it's not about that right now, it's about the well-being of the children. Really, think about it.. some of the bullies out there, maybe if they had someone to talk to, and you never know.. maybe they are getting bullied at school or home and that's why they are bullying other people, maybe.. just maybe they wouldn't be acting like they were. Same situation. Wouldn't you want to save a child's life?
