Watch Adorable Children Explain Why Gay Marriage Should Be Legal
If you watched this great video featuring kids trying to comprehend the racist backlash to the Cheerios ad about an interracial family that began airing back in May, you're familiar with The Fine Bros' interview style. They gather a group of children of all ages for their "Kids React" series and ask them to examine media, then answer some questions about what they saw and the larger cultural issue attached. In their latest video, The Fine Bros asked their collective of California youngsters to watch this popular video of the gay marriage proposal that took place in a Utah Home Depot, as well as another lesbian marriage proposal video that went viral. The kids were then asked how the videos made them feel, and what they think about gay marriage. Take a look:

My 8-year-old daughter watched this video with me last night and laughed and nodded along as the kids gave their responses. Because we live in New York City and I have lots of gay friends, she's been aware of the social climate surrounding equal rights and gay marriage since before it became legal in New York State. She celebrated with me the night gay marriage became legal here in 2011, but I thought I'd check in with her to see if any of her opinions had changed. Here's how our mini-interview went down:
Me: Do you know anybody in our neighborhood or moms and dads at our school that are two boys or two girls?
Kid: Yes.
Me: How do you feel about that?
Kid: I don't care.
Me: Do you think gay people should be able to get married?
Kid: Yes.
Me: Why?
Kid: Because you should be able to. You should be able to because you may never find anybody else that you like.
Exactly. It really is that simple, isn't it? It's interesting that the one little boy in the video who isn't "okay with gay" doesn't know why "it's bad for you." He just knows it is. Because someone told him so, obviously. Whereas the little girl in the green shirt who was just taking the idea of same-sex couples in for the first time who clearly hadn't been told to place a value judgment on gay relationships saw them as no big deal. My favorite line in the entire video is when she says, "I mean, I'm a Christian, I don't think it's wrong!" Ha. Thank you, Jesus.
