Why You Should Forget the To-Do List and Spend More Time with Baby

These precious moments with baby won't last forever
These precious moments with baby won't last forever

Being a mom comes with a job description that is about a mile long,

probably even longer, and in addition to the mommy tasks, there are always other things that need to be done…laundry to wash, food to make, errands to run… I hate to admit it, but there are many times, when these day-to-day tasks get pushed ahead of my time with my baby.

There are days like today when I have approximately 8,000 things to do and I find myself irritated at the fact that my baby needs me to lay down by her to nurse so she can fall asleep for her nap. I find myself wishing she'd just hurry up, so I could start on my tasks. But then sometimes I catch myself and stop to remember that those items on my to-do list will still be there later, but this precious time with my baby will not be.

My baby is still only six-months-old, but I can hardly believe how the time is flying by already. Every day it seems that she is doing something new and learning and changing and growing. Right now, she still needs me to lay down by her and I need to cherish it as much as I can, because she's going to be a teenager before I know it and what teenager wants to snuggle up for a nap with their mom?

Kristin Rogers, a mom who I follow on Instagram, posted a photo with this quote from a book she was reading the other day and it really reminded me about what is most important:

When parents, "let their ambitions, housework, or hobbies, become a higher priority than parenting, and they begin to view their children as annoying interruptions. This attitude guarantees failure, frustration, and anger. Only by reordering priorities and recognizing that parenting is a highly demanding, full time job, will there be any hope for decent results and the absence of frustration. Give up everything else if you have to, and undertake the world's most important and fulfilling job to the best of your ability."
