Why Moms-to-be Should Consider Maternity Photos

By KyAnn Lewis, GalTime.com

You might not feel at your photographic best as you're nearing the end of your pregnancy, but more women are choosing to pose for maternity portraits. Erica Clements is a sought-after maternity photographer in Orlando, Florida. She helps moms-to-be look and feel beautiful. GalTime asked her to tell us more about maternity portraits and why women should consider them.

GalTime:

Why should women have maternity portraits taken?

Erica Clements:

We're only pregnant for such a short time, compared to the lifetime we'll spend with our children. That fleeting moment that we're pregnant is so precious, and once the baby arrives, it's hard to remember what it was like to still have that wonderful belly. I wish I could see some pictures of my Mom when she was pregnant with me. I think it's so important to have at least one photo to share with your child when he or she is grown.

GalTime:

Sometimes it's hard for women to feel beautiful when they're so pregnant, how do you make them feel comfortable during the process?

Erica Clements:

I think it's important to schedule your portrait session at about 33 to 37 weeks gestation, before you reach that really uncomfortable stage of your pregnancy. I find that Moms-to-Be are still enjoying being pregnant at that stage and are excited to show off their bellies. I also make sure we only show as much skin as Mom is comfortable with.

GalTime:

If women can't afford to have them taken professionally, what are some ways they can take them themselves?

Erica Clements:

This is a great question and an easy answer. I'd recommend getting a pretty dress, or pull one out of your closet, and find a nice shady outdoor location. Ask a friend or your hubby to take some pictures of you standing in the grass. Make sure you get some close ups of your belly too.

GalTime:

What kind of feedback do you get from moms-to-be after they see their photos?

Erica Clements:

Not every Mom-to-Be books a Maternity session along with their newborn session. But every Mom that has felt so beautiful after seeing their portraits. I think in the long term they'll be so glad they took maternity portraits. I'm glad I did!
