William and Kate Are Expecting! Now Give Them Some Space

In case you haven't heard any of the people shouting from the roof tops in your neck of the woods, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (a.k.a. William and Kate) officially announced that they are expecting their first child. It is perhaps bad news for the tabloids who have been speculating a pregnancy ever since they walked down the aisle just over 18 months ago. What will they report on now?

As far as celebrities go, I happen to like Will and Kate. However, while I knew people were interested in them, I didn't realize just how intense and widespread the infatuation with them was until my Facebook feed started blowing up over the official pregnancy announcement. The announcement went on to say that Kate has been admitted to the hospital for Hyperemesis Gravidarum, or acute morning sickness, which requires her to need additional nutrients and hydration. There is no reason that she needs to share any complications she is experiencing with me or the rest of the world. Nor should she have to tell any of us whether she is having a boy or a girl. While announcing a due date may keep the tabloids at bay a bit, it isn't necessary to share either.Having a baby is a personal experience. Yes, everyone wants to share in the joy of a new little one, but there are boundaries that should not be crossed. Anyone who has had a stranger rub their pregnant belly knows that.

I know it isn't likely, but wouldn't it be nice if Will and Kate could lay low these next nine months and enjoy this time with their friends and family. Sure, when the baby is born, it will be nice to see a picture of the newest royal and future heir to the throne. But I can't imagine what it would be like if the public was clamoring to see me and my baby in the days, weeks, and months following the birth of my babies while I was sleep-deprived and trying to figure out breast feeding and all the other crazy things happening to my body.

In addition to wishing them a healthy baby, I wish them a healthy dose of privacy during the next year.
