7 Dogs with Gorgeous Grins

By Megan Winter

February is Dental Health Month! To celebrate, we're sharing some of our favorite photos of smiling dogs. From big toothy grins to brightly-beaming mugs, these dogs' happy expressions are truly contagious.

Tommy Jefferson, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, wears a big smile on his face during an afternoon trip to the park.

The Pembroke originated in Wales some 1,000 years ago and was employed as an all-around farm dog. He herded livestock, killed rats and other vermin, and barked an alarm if strangers came by.

Sesame the Shiba Inu shows off her toothy grin as she climbs a tree.

The Shiba is the most popular companion dog in Japan. Its appearance often leads people to ask if he is a fox. He has a compact, muscular body, a wedge-shaped head, dark-brown eyes and erect triangular ears that combine to give him a confident, good-natured expression.

An Australian Shepherd named Roofus poses for a picture after being groomed.

The Australian Shepherd has a medium-length double coat that can be straight or wavy. Expect to brush it two or three times a week to remove dead hair and keep shedding to a minimum.

Gabon, a Basenji mix, is all smiles when it comes to playing fetch with her owner.

The Basenji belongs to the pariah dog family, meaning that they have a primitive appearance and characteristics. Pariah-type dogs are medium size with prick ears, a wedge-shaped head and a long tail that curls over the back. The coat is usually a neutral color such as tan, brown or black, but some are patched or spotte

Milo the Yorkshire Terrier is happy to be dressed as one of his favorite heroes, Superman.

The Yorkshire Terrier has an inquisitive temperament - not to mention an impish sense of humor. They have stunning blue-and-tan coats, but they're not born that way. Puppies are black, and their coat color develops as they mature.

Peppy the Maltese smiles at her owner, hoping to play.

The breed originated in Malta some 2,000 years ago and has always been a companion dog. It has earned enduring popularity by combining cute with a lively, bright, and bold personality.

Cricket, a Bull Terrier puppy, smiles mischievously just before pouncing on her owner.

The breed comes in two varieties: white and colored. They are exhibited in separate classes at dog shows but are otherwise the same breed. They are a strong muscular dog with a long oval head that resembles an egg (especially in the white variety).
