Who needs the Super Bowl when you've got Puppy Bowl?

You know what this weekend is? Well, yes, it IS the Super Bowl, but that's not what I'm talking about. No, I'm talking about something much, much more important, something meant for those of us who don't really understand the point of American football. That's right; we, too have something to watch on Sunday afternoon, and that something is Puppy Bowl.

If you've never experienced Puppy Bowl before, you definitely owe it to yourself to do so. Hosted by Animal Planet, it's pretty much exactly what it sounds like: A football game played by puppies instead of humans. It consists of footage of a whole variety of adorable, four-legged furry things playing inside a model stadium-and yes, there is commentary. There's also, by the way, a Kitty Half-Time Show and a Goodyear Blimp piloted by hamsters.

It is a magical, magical thing.

Why is this filed under Diet + Health, you ask? Simple: It is a truth universally acknowledged that puppies are good for your health. Also, the puppies featured on Puppy Bowl are all rescues, and the show broadcasts information throughout the game about how you can adopt rescued puppies and help out your local animal shelters. What's healthier than that?

But now, here's what you've all been waiting for: The starting lineup! Here's a selection of the cuteness awaiting you at Puppy Bowl VIII:

Abilene, a female Australian Shepherd mix who is an expert scuba diver:
