20 Pieces Under $20 in Honor of HBO's "Girls"

James Hughes, Lucky magazine

Gone are the days of Carrie Bradshaw, $17 dollar martinis, and affordable pre-war Manhattan apartments - at least on HBO that is. In the upcoming series Girls (premiering on April 15 at 10:30 PM on HBO), writer/director/actress/comedian Lena Dunham paints twentysomething city-life a bit more realistically: dead-end jobs, cheap booze, depressing hook-ups and cramped sublets. After her indie hit Tiny Furniture, Dunham created the show (which she also stars in) to reflect a new generation of New York women.

Dunham plays Hannah, a recent college grad financially cut off by her parents after two years of waiting for an internship to turn into a job offer. Crushed, she relies on her friends Marnie (Allison Williams), Jessa (Jemima Kirke) and Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) to pick up the pieces. Thanks to excellent casting and pitch-perfect writing, Dunham makes her characters feel real-often hilariously and uncomfortably real-while they navigate the usual pratfalls of twentysomething life.

In honor of Dunham and her girls, here are 20 pieces that won't break the bank. Even if you are broke in the city.
