What are your top tips for getting a great back-to-school hair cut without spending too much?
"I think you can find a talented hairdresser anywhere if you do your research," says Andrea Pomerantz Lustig, author of How to Look Expensive (Penguin Group). "Check sites like Yelp.com or Styleseat.com (where stylists can actually post photos of their work) for reviews, pictures of stylists' work, and even specials or deals. Also, try posting on Facebook and asking your friends for a great hairstylist recommendation. Word of mouth is everything when it comes to getting a great haircut! You can even stop someone on the street or at the mall if they have great hair and ask who did it. Or walk into a salon that you can afford and check out the hair on the stylists and assistants. They all do each others hair, so if you find a look you like, ask who did it!
Another important tip is to make sure you're getting a hair cut that works for you, not just one that's on-trend. Consult with your stylist before they break out the scissors! You want to be straightforward with them and tell them what you're looking for, but also ask their opinion on what will be best for your hair type, personality, budget, and maintenance style. The best cuts are ones that work so well with your hair type that you don't have to work too hard to maintain everyday-who has the time?"
