Travel took on a completely different meaning centuries ago. There were no planes, no cars and no GPS systems, and there was still the thrill and mystery of the unknown. Christopher Columbus could relate to this. Back in the 1400s he had what you would call "the travel itch." He discovered continents and cities that were otherwise unknown and tried to estimate distances between them. On Columbus Day, a celebration of the anniversary of Christopher Columbus' arrival in the Americas, we are reminded of his story, and I can't help but be a bit jealous at all he was able to be "the first" to see and explore. Today, thanks to modern technology, the world has become rather small. We can look up pretty much any destination on the web and check out photos, video clips, and even chat with people in these different places in seconds.
