Algae: The Secret Ingredient in All of Your Beauty Products

The bad news: rubbing green slimy algae all over your hair, face, and body will make you look younger and prettier. The good news: you're probably already applying it. Fashionista.com reports that algae (or seaweed, as its also known) has emerged as one of the most popular new elements to include in beauty products and it's sneakily tucked away on the ingredient list. According to The New York Times, there are more than 100 algae-derived ingredients used in cosmetics worldwide.
"Think about how algae can live anywhere, live in the coldest of places, or the harshest of places, and think about translating that to skin care," Allison Slater, vice president for retail marketing at Sephora, told the Times.
This makes the ingredient adaptable for inclusion in all sorts of beauty products. So there's no reason to go crazy and start rubbing yourself down with seaweed, but you can begin including it into your current beauty regimen.
