At New York Fashion Week, Bathrobes Are the New Coats

"Snuggly" and "cozy" aren’t two words that spring to mind when we hear the words, “Fashion Week,” but to showcase fall trends, models swaddled themselves in Snuggie-inspired robe coats (roats? cobes?), oversized, slouchy, cinched wraps. Is the bathrobe having an identity crisis or are designers onto something? “Robe coats are easy to wear: Slip on, tie up, and go, no buttoning required,” Lauren Indvik, co-editor in chief of Fashionista, tells Yahoo Shine. “What's new are the colors – instead of traditional palettes of solid grays and blacks, designers are turning to more vibrant colors, such as cobalt blue, olive green and hot pink.” But just because designers are embracing the post-shower body towel on the runway doesn't mean you should wrap yourself in a bulky bathrobe on date night. Or does it? Check out these high-fashion coat robes before you make any hasty decisions. —By Elise Solé, Shine Staff
