Global Art Project Asks: What Will You Do Before You Die?

New Orleans-based artist Candy Chang has brought the bucket list to the masses. Her new book, “Before I Die,” released this month by St. Martin’s Press, is a collection of images and stories of Chang's very personal art installation gone global. “I’m passionate about how our public spaces can help us make sense of our lives,” Chang tells Yahoo Shine. When Chang unexpectedly lost a loved one four years ago, she wanted a way to ease her own grief and express what was meaningful to her. In 2011, she decided to turn the side of an abandoned house in her neighborhood into a giant chalkboard and stenciled it with a fill-in-the-blank statement, “Before I die I want to..." According to Chang, within a day the wall was filled with colorful chalked sentiments written by her neighbors and, since then, more than 400 walls have been replicated in more than 60 countries and 25 languages. Here, a sampling of the some of the walls from around the world — and the stories that went with them — all featured in Chang's 304-page book.  — Jennifer Carofano, Shine Staff
