"Cleopatra" 50th Anniversary Celebration

This years marks the 50th anniversary of "Cleopatra." The epic 1963 film remains one of the most extravagant and expensive movies ever made, $42 million back then, so that's $330 million with inflation-more than "Avatar." It was also responsible for one of the biggest love affairs of all time, the romance between co-stars Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Twentieth Century Fox and Bulgari have commemorated this anniversary with a newly-restored version of the film premiering at Cannes Film Festival and a limited release in theaters. Oscar-nominee Jessica Chastain, attended the Cannes event wearing Elizabeth Taylor's iconic Bulgari jewelry.

If you haven't seen "Cleopatra," it is certainly worth viewing (a new Blu-Ray debuts on May 28). Taylor's entrance to Rome as the Egyptian Queen is one of the most elaborate and memorable scenes in cinema. We had the great opportunity to fly to Rome to check out Elizabeth Taylor's stunning costumes, her Bulgari jewels, and take a tour of Cinecitta, the film studio where "Cleopatra" was made.
