Figure Skater Jason Brown's Bronytail Wins Hair Olympics

Brace yourself, because bronytails are about to explode. Just as every little girl in America begged for a Dorothy Hamill wedge cut after the 1976 Olympics, figure skater Jason Brown's ponytail is the big hair story at the Sochi 2014 Winter Games. It even has its own Twitter feed, @2014PonyPower, with nearly 1,000 followers. Not everbody likes it, the Daily Mail called the look "unfashionable," but, in general, fans are loving Brown's fresh style which has injected some youthful fun into the event. Male models, athletes, actors, and rockstars have been wearing ponies forever, but here's a regular-looking kid working the look. Some tips for the dudes who might want pony up: What makes Brown's ponytail a success is that it's groomed, squeaky clean, and secured tight and tastefully low at the nape of neck. Ignore the celebs who have been sporting "My Little Ponies"—bushy stubs that appear unwashed and haphazard. A 16-year-old female acquaintance wrinkled her nose and replied when quizzed about young Hollywood's penchant for mini-ponies, "It's OK for Leonardo DiCaprio—he's Leonardo DiCaprio—but…." Yeah, not even Bradley Cooper or Jake Gyllenhaal has the swag to pull off the greasy John Belushi-as-Samurai style that is popular with the celeb set. Here's an ode to Brown's mantail and to the other men who are (mostly) able to rock a pony.
