A Fresh DIY Wedding Updo

by Dana Wood, Brides

A South African charmer who's put his creative stamp on ad campaigns (Lanvin, Lancôme) and the red carpet (styling Liv Tyler, Cate Blanchett, and others), Peter Gray is expert at making soft, natural wedding hairstyles that last. A hot tip: prying bobby pins open and coating them with a generous spritz of hairspray before inserting them into an updo. Also, says Gray, mess it up a little.

"With every bride I've ever done, I've been like, 'Now stand up, jump around, hang your head upside down, and make the style your own,'" he says. "That brings life to it. What's sexy is organic. And at your wedding, you want to look sexy."
