One aspect I don't understand about cats is the whole "if I fit, I sit" philosophy cats seem to hold. They love sitting in random strange places, and then there's the whole cardboard box thing. Cats and cardboard boxes seem to have a real, true love relationship - so much so that cardboard boxes have been coined as "cat traps." I've caught my cat, Ariel, in them time and time again and it seems if you're looking to catch a cat, just put out a cardboard box and they will come to you.
