Martha's Shortlist-
In 1982, a little-known Connecticut caterer named Martha Stewart published a glossy book on entertaining that sold like hot cakes and transformed its author into a global symbol of domesticity. This fall-with a media empire and multiple product lines, including her vast housewares collection for Macy's, under her belt-Stewart is releasing her most personal and lavish book on parties yet, Martha's Entertaining: A Year of Celebrations (Clarkson Potter). "My style has evolved," she says, "but I still iron my napkins, polish my silver, and wash my glassware carefully." Choosing just a dozen items for her shortlist was a challenge. "I could list hundreds," she says. But since becoming a grandmother last winter, when daughter Alexis welcomed a baby girl to the family, Stewart's priorities have been clear. "Baby Jude," she says, "is my most favorite thing."
