Men Who Handle Women's Success Well (and Those Who Don't)

So as it turns out, men don't really love it when their wives or girlfriends succeed. Instead, their egos take a bruising, finds a new study published by the American Psychological Association. Unlike the women surveyed, whose self-esteem was not affected by their male partners' successes, men felt worse about themselves when asked to focus on a time their women excelled in life. "It makes sense that a man might feel threatened if his girlfriend outperforms him in something they're doing together, such as trying to lose weight," the study's lead author, Kate Ratliff, of the University of Florida, said in a press release. "But this research found evidence that men automatically interpret a partner's success as their own failure, even when they're not in direct competition." Jeez, guys, get over it already, OK? Here are six men who did — and four who, ultimately, could not.—Beth Greenfield, Shine Staff
