Cost of My Birth: $1,337,079.80
Name: Theresa R. Age: 26 Location: Buffalo, NY Insurance coverage: Private Insurance & Medicaid Why this price? My twins were born at 25 weeks and spent 99 days in the NICU. Together, their care cost $1,337,079.80! Once our insurance company was billed, they were able to negotiate the price down to $544,141.34. Because the babies were born as micro-preemies, they qualified for Medicaid, which picked up the remaining co-pays our insurance company didn't cover. This worked out to approximately $4000. However, even with these costs covered, we were still not in clear by any means. When our twins came home, we ended up paying for an in-home nurse for over two months while they remained on an apnea/bradycardia machine. This was not covered by our insurance or Medicaid.
