Mother + Daughter: Photographer's Project Highlights Special Bond

Artist Carra Sykes, 25, says she's alway been close to her mother, but her photo series Mother + Daughter has deepened their relationship. "Over the past 3 or 4 years I have become super interested in exploring collaborative work," she told Yahoo! Shine. "I thought it would be a new way for my mom and I to bond if I could bring her into a creative collaboration. She has been more than supportive throughout our work. I admit, I can be a bit bossy while shooting the photos because my perfectionist side gets a little louder, but she is humble and kind throughout it all." Sykes says she started taking photographs of her mother wearing her clothing in 2012, at a time when she was feeling "a little down. I wanted to do something fun and creative. It started as a small, lighthearted photo series and kept growing." Sykes says that people have always said she looks her mom-and her mother is known wearing her cast off clothing, especially her old concert t-shirts-but what animates the series is more than a resemblance, it's a lightness of spirit that emanates from beneath surface appearances. --Sarah B.
