Orla Kiely Talks Dressing Kate Middleton's Mom and Her New Target Team-Up

by Elana Fishman

Beloved London designer Orla Kiely has a number of reasons to be excited right now. For one, her new line of tech accessories for Target (in collaboration with Belkin) just launched, giving us print-happy people the opportunity to cover our iThings in her signature retro patterns. And then there's that whole Middleton thing.

The Duchess of Cambridge has worn several looks of Kiely's in the past, but yesterday, Carole Middleton-Kate's mom and now a new grandma-chose a pretty printed sky blue number from the designer's Spring 2012 collection while arriving to meet her new grandson. It was a fitting dress to pick, considering Kate's own choice of pale blue polka dots, and I couldn't resist asking Kiely a few questions about it.

"We had no idea-it was a lovely surprise! I thought she looked very well. It's her first grandson, which is so exciting." As for the newborn Prince of Cambridge, I wondered, might we be seeing him in some mini Orla patterns sometime soon? "Oh, hopefully he won't have to dress too formal at this stage!" the designer laughed. "He should just keep it casual for a bit! I think [Kate and William] are going to be great parents. I think Diana would be very proud."
