The return of capes!

I vividly remember my first experience with a cape. I had just gotten my first Barbie and some outfits for her for my 5th birthday. I was very puzzled by one of the miniature garments: a long pink item that tied around the neck. I asked my grandma, who gave me the items, what it was. "It's a cape," she said. "I wore one when I was a young lady, they are very chic." Of course, I laughed. A cape! Like Superman! Why would my Barbie wear a cape?! That's so silly!

Some of us have not seen capes worn by actual humans during our lifetime (they were particularly popular during the Depression and made a bit of a comeback in the '70s), and may have a similar reaction to the concept of wearing a cape. But over the past few seasons, capes have found their place on the runways of top designers like Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Salvatore Ferragamo, Chloe, and Missoni. Now they're showing up off the runways too. Actress and fashionista Chloe Sevigny wore one to an event this past week, while singer Ke$ha went the superhero route with an American flag cape onstage. Would you wear a cape, or do you think they should stay in the past and in comic books? [Huff Post][NY Mag]
