When it comes to making Thanksgiving goodies, from mashed potatoes to pumpkin pie, a mixer in the kitchen creates smooth results and prevents sore arms and wrists. Although stand mixers like the classic KitchenAid offer the most power, many households rely on hand-held mixers because they take up less storage space and command a fraction of the price. In fact, a hand mixer can tackle stubborn batter and dough but cost just 10 percent of what a high-end stand mixer would.

Cheapism.com set out to find the best inexpensive hand-held mixers based on features and reviews from consumers and experts and found three options for under $30. Each of these mixers offers five or six speed settings to choose from and a power-boost function for sticky situations. The low settings are best for creaming butter or mixing cookie dough, while the highest can be used to make whipped cream or beat egg whites. The mixers recommended here come with at least one more set of mixing tools besides the standard beaters -- dough hooks, for example -- and one model even includes a storage case.
