The Oscar Love Curse

Winning an Oscar should be the crowning glory for an actress’ career but come this February 24th, any loved-up nominees for Actress in a Leading should be quaking in their boots, as there is a theory that the women who win are doomed to get cheated on or divorced not long after, in a trend which has come to be known as the "Oscar love curse."

Or they would be quaking in their boots, except of the five Best Actress nominees; Jessica Chastain, Emmanuelle Riva, Jennifer Lawrence, and Quvenzhané Wallis, Naomi Watts appears to be the only one in a long-term relationship.

A surprising number of Leading or Supporting Oscar winning actresses have ended their relationships within a few years of taking home the award. There has even been a study into the phenomena. Researchers at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management and Carnegie Mellon University concluded that a massive 60 per cent of Best Actress winners got divorced after going home with Oscar.
