An Unbelievably Gorgeous Transformation of a Closet to a Mudroom

Entryways are one of the most used spaces in your home and often the most difficult to keep organized. It's so easy to come home, shed your various layers in a heap and then move onto the next thing. In our home, the entry can easily become cluttered with anything from shoes and coats to dog leashes and toys. Some people have the luxury of a mudroom, a small room right inside the door where all shoes, outerwear and accessories live. We don't have that kind of dedicated space, so I decided to make one out of a closet by the back door, but any nook would do the job. My mudroom is small, but it has a lot of personality thanks to an abundant use of color. Most everything in the room--including a floating bench and storage baskets--are a DIY of some sort. Click through the slideshow above to see how I turned a closet into a functional mini mudroom.
